The Jonna family has deep roots in Birmingham that began when they founded Merchant of Vino in the 80s. In the 90s, this concept was morphed into the Merchant’s Fine Wine line, after which they opened Vinotecca, a unique wine bar and retail store that both educates customers and celebrates the art of food and wine pairing. Their second wine bar and full service restaurant, Vinology, opened in Ann Arbor in April 2006. Vinology continues to lead the Ann Arbor wine market with a strong following of regular diners and has become a favorite destination for small weddings, personal and corporate events.
In 2014, they opened, The Bird and The Bread, a European comfort food inspired concept in downtown Birmingham, MI. This restaurant broadens its beverage focus beyond a generous selection of unique wines to include a selection of over 100 beers, craft cocktails, and dozens of specialty spirits. Together, the Jonna’s continue the family traditions of excellence in customer service, product education, and innovative research to advance their restaurants as leaders in the industry.
