Metro Detroit is buzzing with interest in Birmingham’s newest restaurant, The Bird & The Bread, owned by Kristin Jonna (ofVinology in Ann Arbor and Vinotecca in Royal Oak) decided to step away from the wine theme in favor of something a little different, because she felt she knew exactly what Birmingham needed: a “casual, playful, but smart” dining option, that was also family friendly. Yes, they have a children’s menu, but it’s not just grilled cheese and chicken tenders, it’s a healthier more modern take on kids’ cuisine. The restaurant is also hoping to attract craft beer enthusiasts, with 24 beers on tap. In an unusual move, half of them are European, keeping in with the overall European theme of the menu (and giving a nod to her husband’s Belgian heritage).
